LONDON UNDER ATTACK - WALKING TOUR AND INDIAN CURRY
27.05.2012 - 16.12.2012 : 11:00 : Steps of St. Paulīs Cathedral

London Under Attack - Walking Tour and Indian Curry
Duration: 3 hours

Join us for a guided walking tour that takes us through the heart of ancient London looking at sights that tell the story of the city’s history, with a particular interest in the myriad of assults it has suffered and the spirit of renewal that has sprung it from the ashes... Then we move on to the trendiest part of the city and an authentic family-owned Indian restaurant where we will feast on the delights of Londonīs most popular cuisine (included).

Tour Highlights

The Medieval Guildhall
This hidden medieval gem is an amazing survivor from the ancient city of London. Built in the 1420īs this is where the Mayor and Aldermen would meet and debate the future of the City. On our London Under Attack tour we enter this astonishing building and explore everything from its statues of two mythological giants, monuments to the Duke of Wellington, Sir Whinston Churchill and the remarkable insignia of the London Guilds.

St. Paulīs Cathedral
Take in the majestic Baroque Cathedral built by Sir Christopher Wren whilst hearing about its ancient past as a druid centre of worship and a Roman temple. Learn about Viking raids and great fires that destroyed earlier cathedrals on this sight and how during the civil war this beautiful cathedral was used as a garrison for both men and horses...

The Bank of England
The Bank to the British government since 1694, it financed the empire, has seen riots on its footsteps and sits in one of the prettiest squares in the City with the Mansion House, The Royal Exchange and St Mary Woolnoth for its neighbours. A must see.

The Monument
The Monument was built by Christopher Wren to commemorate the Great Fire of London in 1666. The magnificent 61-metre column acts as a symbol of London’s faith in itself and offers an amazing panorama of the surrounding area.

Medieval Church Bombed During The Blitz
This secret and hidden church dates back to the Saxons, and while it is now an oasis of calm it suffered during both the Great Fire and The Blitz. These days it works as a memorial to these catastrophic events of Londonīs history.

Londonīs Majestic Skyscrapers
The City of London has become, in the last 25 years, one of the most innovative architectural playgrounds of the world. Our morning stroll will take in the best of London’s skyscrapers including the descriptively nicknamed Gherkin.

Leadenhall Market
This fantastic, off the beaten track market sits at what was once the centre of Roman London. The market itself has stood here for over 600 years. Here we will learn about how Roman London was reduced to a thin layer of ash by Queen Boudicca. Fans of Harry Potter will recognise it as the real life setting of Diagon Alley which was filmed on location here.

Indian Cuisine
After building up our appetite over the course of our walk we will make our way to what we consider the best, most authentic and welcoming Indian restaurant in London, where we will sample many varieties of the British national dish: Curry!
